Pursuing an education on-line has both benefits and
costs associated with it. The main benefit is that the
student is free to access the material to be learned at
their convenience and as often as necessary for them to
fully grasp the concepts involved. There is no pressure
to move forward in order to keep up with the class. Students
will move forward only when they are comfortable that
the material is fully understood. This form of education
requires self discipline coupled with a strong desire
to complete the workload and to acquire the knowledge.
Learning occurs when several steps have been completed. The first step is to carefully read the assigned textbook materials, underlining in one colour the key concepts and making note of anything that is not understood by either writing this down or underlining it in another colour. When the materials have been read, do the questions offered at the end of each chapter as a method of determining where misunderstandings might occur.
If the professor has assigned other readings or has indicated
websites to visit, spend the time to do this work as it
is intended to assist you with understanding the subject
matter. Once these steps are completed, review the lecture
notes on-line. Keep a workbook handy and make note of
the key concepts as well as anything that is unclear.
At this point, some of the items that were not clearly
understood from the chapter readings may become easier
to understand.
Complete the quiz that accompanies the lecture to determine if areas still exist that require further explanation. Look at the accompanying quiz answers once you have tried the quiz in order to grade yourself and to assist you to determine which, if any topics require further work. Now review the textbook chapter to determine if any of the issues that you underlined as unclear are still unclear. If so, make note of these issues. Now review the notes that you made from the lecture material and if any of these issues are still unclear then add them to your list.
Send an e-mail to the professor with your final list of topics and allow 24 hours for the professor to respond.
Our professors are committed to your education and will work with you to make certain that you understand the material to your satisfaction.
